What is “Believing in God”? ( Kami o Shinjirutte, Dō Iu Koto? )

Yuki Morizumi, text and torn paper art

The artist uses torn rice paper (washi) to make her pictures. She tells her story of how she came to trust in Christ and learned what faith is. She first encountered the idea of God and the Bible through books by foreign authors like Dickens, Tolstoy, Hugo, etc. While she was studying design she worked as a tutor for a family with handicapped children, attended church and gradually came to see having faith was a good thing. In her studies she chose to pursue art made from torn paper. She liked to see foreign movies that sometimes included God in the picture. She realized Christian’s believed in the historically real death and resurrection of Jesus. She realized she needed to know much more about the Bible to make sense of it all. In a Bible Introduction class she was stuck by Romans 7:15 statement “ I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.” She was trying to improve herself in preparation for marriage. She recognized she could not become the good person she wanted to be. The Bible says her egoism was sin. Instead of a subject to study, she began to read the Bible as God’s personal letter to her. She eventually chose to become a Christian in a relationship with God whom she met in the Bible. She published a book with her testimony and art illustrations entitled Amazing Grace. She does not believe in order to escape life’s problems. She relies on God in every area of life through all circumstances. 105x180mm size. Pack of 50.
