Eternal Homeland Home Use DVD

Yuri Mori

50 minutes plus 25 minutes extra. Musical documentary with Yuri Mori singing and narrating the amazing history of school songs and other children’s songs in Japan. They all started when American educator (and Christian) Luther Mason was invited by the Meiji government to set up the music education system in Japan. He introduced into the curriculum some hymns and many songs based on hymn tunes that influenced the development of modern Japanese music. Keichi Okano, who wrote “Furusato” (Homeland) was a Christian who was probably thinking of heaven when he wrote the song. In the extra feature Shunichi Teshirogi gives more detailed information on Mason and his impact.
