ABDUCTION: The Megumi Yokota Story
(Megumi: Hikisakareta Kazoku no 30 nen)

Patty Kim & Chris Sheridan, Directors. From Gaga Communications. Distributed to Christian market by Life Entertainment, WLPM.
Home Use VHS video. Color, running time 90 minutes, Canadian documentary. Megumi was a thirteen-year-old living in Niigata, Japan, when she vanished, on November 15, 1977. For 20 years, her parents had no idea what had happened to her or if she was even alive. Then, they learned the shocking truth: North Korean spies had abducted her. In 2002 North Korea admitted to taking Japanese citizens and using them to teach language and culture skills to spies. Some abductees returned to Japan, but heartbreakingly, Megumi was not among them. Pyongyang said she had died, but the Yokotas cannot believe anything North Korea says. The film details what Megumi's parents, Shigeru and Sakie, have been through and their struggle to get help in rescuing her and other abductees. . Sakie turned to the Bible and became a Christian and enjoys the warm fellowship and support of other believers, while her husband says he cannot believe in a God who would allow such a thing to happen. Teruaki Masumoto of The Association of the Families of Victims Kidnapped by North Korea is also featured. This is a human story about a strange, painful journey, full of bizarre twists as an ordinary banker and his housewife are caught up in a life they could never have imagined. Ultimately, ABDUCTION is a moving, emotional testament to the unbreakable bonds of love. The film has won numerous film festival awards. In Japanese with Japanese subtitles when English or Korean is spoken.
